about

Sometimes I find gems that I forgot I started writing, to me this is one of those. I found this tune among a pile of pro-tools sessions with nothing but a title and a badly out of time acoustic. I vaguely remember recording this at all, I know I was working on another song when I got the idea so I slapped it down quick that day.

The lyrics relate to simpler times of day gone by, when we were happy with our ignorance, much less jaded. Sure we are more informed today, but at what cost. With information comes a responsibility to look out for one another, but from where I sit I think we had a better grasp on that when we were not conditioned to think that there is some value in working for the sake of work alone, and we found value and comfort in the time we spent interacting with one another, as friends and families.

Such a great betrayal, all the trust and faith we put into politically driven media systems during those simple times, all the while they we're selling you a dream that you had no realistic chance of ever achieving. Look at us all now, stuck like Pooh in Rabbit's hole!

lyrics

Once
- R. Johnson

Once,
We were so in love
With the way it was
Unknown to the way we are
The way we've become

Sometimes we complicate
And some things we throw away
And sometimes we throw away
The things that we complicate

Once,
A dream was to speculate
TV our learning place
Time was never in waste
Tell me why we've become this way

Sometimes we complicate
And some things we throw away
And sometimes we throw away
The things that we complicate

Solo

Sometimes we complicate
And some things we throw away
And sometimes we throw away
The things that we complicate
